Press vs Orbital Weld vs Threaded: Choosing a Joint by Access
A decision frame built on coolant, access, inspectability and service life - not on habit or on whichever fitting is in stock.
%s
There is no universally best joint for a liquid cooling loop. Orbital welding gives a controlled internal bead on a permanent run; press fittings avoid hot work in a live facility; threaded and flanged connections make future isolation and replacement straightforward. Each carries a different inspection and access requirement.
The selection belongs in the drawing review, alongside coolant compatibility and the pressure regime of the loop. We document the chosen method so the installer knows which joints are permanent and which are serviceable.
Key Points
- Coolant chemistry and the agreed operating envelope come first.
- Hot work restrictions on site may rule out a welded joint regardless of preference.
- Every joint type needs a defined inspection method and record.
