Routing a Secondary-Side Loop: Five Clearances Engineers Forget

Wrench access, drain points, isolation valves, thermal movement and replacement space - five checks that are cheap on the drawing and expensive on site.

A routed line can be perfectly correct hydraulically and still be impossible to install. The recurring problems are physical rather than calculated: a valve handle with nowhere to turn, a branch that cannot be reached by the joining tool, a rigid run with no allowance for thermal movement.

We run a clearance review against the rack and CDU envelope at engineering review. It is faster to move a branch by 40 mm on a PDF than to re-fabricate a header after the skid is in place.

Key Points

  • Tool and hand access at every pressed, welded or threaded joint.
  • Isolation and drain points positioned so the loop can actually be serviced.
  • Space for the assembly to be lifted out and replaced later.
