304 vs 316L for Coolant-Wetted Parts: How We Frame the Decision
A material choice that starts with coolant chemistry and the operating envelope - not with a stock list or a price difference.
%s
Both AISI 304 and 316L seamless stainless tube are used in our work. The decision is driven by the coolant composition, the operating envelope, the cleaning regime and the corrosion behaviour expected over the service life of the loop, rather than by grade alone.
We confirm coolant compatibility at engineering review and state the chosen grade on the quotation and on the material documentation. Where the loop uses deionised water or glycol blends, the internal surface condition and the joint method are reviewed at the same time.
Key Points
- Coolant chemistry and cleanliness requirements are the starting point.
- Material grade, wall thickness and joint method are reviewed as one decision.
- Heat-number traceability and EN 10204 3.1 MTC are available as agreed with the order.

EN 10204 3.1 MTC Explained: What the Certificate Covers
A mill test certificate describes the material it was issued for. It is not a certificate for the assembled loop - here is the distinction that matters in a purchase order.
